The Goshen College men’s basketball team was honored at a recent banquet.
Gary Chupp, coach of the Maple Leafs, said, “Coming into the year, every coach in the conference picked us to finish dead last. We beat four nationally-ranked teams and, going into the last week of the season, we had 19 wins and were in a four-way tie for fourth place.
“While things didn’t work out exactly how we would have liked, the great part about these guys is they weren’t and continue not to be satisfied with just exceeding expectations.”
Errick McCollum, 6-1 sophomore from Canton, Ohio, was named most valuable player of the team. He averaged 23.6 points per game.
Brice Hartman, 6-6 senior from Elkhart Central, received the coaches appreciation award.
Nate West Jr., 6-4 sophomore from Canton, Ohio, earned “Defensive Player of the Year” honors.
Scott Bruggeman, freshman from Portland, Indiana, was named most improved.
Bryce Bow, junior from Muncie, earned the “Play Hard Award” as the Maple Leafs’ hardest practice player.
