Andy Jewett says faith and family are a huge part of his life.
He’s the tech and media director for Grace Community Church in Goshen.
“I help shape the visual identity of our church,” Jewett said. “It’s not easy. We try to make it the best we can be. We work with excellence. We love Jesus and we love people. It’s an incredibly fun environment.”
He had volunteered with the worship team at the church when what is now his current position opened up in May of 2012.
“My job is everything visual — print media, web, video. I produce the services on a Sunday. It’s all technical. I’m behind the camera,” Jewett said. “There is a volunteer staff of 20 to 30 for the services we have every Sunday. We average between 2,500 to 3,000 between the three services. This is a unique place. We have solid preaching with a laid-back and fun environment.”
There is a good chemistry within the staff, he added.
“We work pretty feverishly,” he said. “There is a lot of searching and seeking between the staff. It’s stressful but definitely awesome. I go home tired but it’s worthwhile because of the group of guys and ladies who are working together.”
He goes home to his wife, Sara Jewett, and their four children, Lucy, Jack, Rosie and Olive.
“My family is a huge part of my life and we’re planning to adopt for number five,” Jewett said, smiling. “We always had a heart for adoption, even after four kids.”
Jewett has created posters and graphics for different events and activities at the church and he’s a comic book artist, as well.
“I’ve been drawing since I was 5 and lucky enough to have parents who encourage it,” he said. “My family bought me art sets and pencils for gifts. My inspiration was the Sunday funnies, especially ‘Calvin and Hobbes’ and ‘Peanuts.’”
His office at Grace Community Church reflects his work as an artist plus his interests and hobbies.
He has coffee table books by Bill Watterson, the author of the comic strip “Calvin and Hobbes,” Charles Schulz and Norman Rockwell.
There’s a life-sized cutout of two of his children that was used for a Christmas program propped near his large wooden desk.
“My desk is from a consignment shop. I tend to be somebody who likes unique,” Jewett said. “I like catchy antique stuff. I spend a lot of time in antique and consignment shops when I can.”
He’s placed an antique loveseat for visitors and staff to sit on while in his office. A large print approximately 6 feet by 6 feet fills the wall above the sofa of his wife posing like she’s looking out a window. The framing
“I posed my wife (for the photo) and used Photoshop (to create the scene.) It was used as part of a set in a program for church,” Jewett said. “I love what I do.”
