Goshen departments unlike to see huge bump in 2014

GOSHEN — Several department heads within the city may have to deal with a less than desired number of new or refilled positions in 2014 if a vote taken at Tuesday’s City Council meeting is any indication.
During Tuesday’s meeting, the council passed the 2014 budget on first reading with very little discussion on individual department budgets. However, one area that did receive some reworking was the request by some departments for the addition of new employees or the filling of currently vacant positions.
In referencing the position requests, Councilman Jeremy Stutsman made a motion to amend the 2014 budget ordinance to include the removal of several requested positions in an effort to keep the city’s expenditures to a conservative minimum.
Stutsman’s motion allows the Goshen Police Department two filled vacancies, but removes the additional request of two new officers, the Street Department would get a vacancy filled, but not an additional new position, and the Parks Department would get two maintenance positions, but not a requested administrative position.

More on Tuesday night’s meeting will appear in Thursday’s Goshen News.
