Youth orchestra concert set at IUSB

SOUTH BEND — The South Bend Youth Symphony Orchestra will continue its season with a performance at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Campus Auditorium of Northside Hall.  The concert will include performances by the South Bend Youth Concert Orchestra and the South Bend Youth Symphony Orchestra.

The South Bend Youth Concert Orchestra will perform “Peasant Dance” from “The Bartered Bride” by Friedrich Smetana, arranged by Alfred Pfortner; “Festique” by M.L. Daniels; and the first movement of “Symphony No. 9 in C Major” by Franz Schubert, arranged by Lennie Niehaus and Vernon Leidig.

Emilie Grondin directs the South Bend Youth Concert Orchestra.

The South Bend Youth Symphony Orchestra, directed by Robert Boardman, will present “Voyage” by John Coriliano, the “Overture from La Forza del Destino” by Giuseppe Verdi, and “Ritual Fire Dance” by Manuel de Falla.  They will also present “Pavane for a Dead Princess” by Maurice Ravel, and selections from “West Side Story” as arranged by Jack Mason.

The South Bend Youth Symphony Orchestras are a collaborative project in the Michiana community with the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts at IU South Bend.  The orchestras were formed in an effort to provide young musicians with an opportunity to rehearse and perform in a larger ensemble.  Carrie Cimildoro-Beem serves as the executive director of this organization.
