Event needs helpers to send seeds to DR

ROCHESTER — Goshen Allstate agent Tim Doud is helping to coordinate an event and is needing volunteers ages 5 and older Feb. 8, at Rochester High School to help prepare 10,000 seed packets to be sent to the Dominican Republic to create a sustainable food source for thousands of families.

The seed ministry is part of a partnership between Faith Outreach and Global Aid Network, the relief and development aid arm of Campus Crusade for Christ International. The organization launched the program in 2010 as a tool to help solve world hunger by giving families seeds that allow them to grow food for their own use.

Also needed are donations. According to Doud it costs $10,000 to pay for the seeds and shipping cost. Of this, $5,000 already has been raised but the balance still needs to be met.

Volunteers willing to help pack seeds can register online at www.gainusa.org/seed or locally by calling Tim Doud at 574-215-0017 or email at timdoud@allstate.com.

Donations can be sent in care of Faith Outreach Center, 1125 E. Ninth Street, Rochester, IN 46975 or made during the Feb. 8 packing hours — 9 to 11 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m.
