Eagle Scouts saluted at ceremony

Three Goshen boys earn Scouting's top honor at ceremony.

---- — GOSHEN — Three Goshen boys earned the designation of Eagle Scout during a ceremony Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Goshen.

The three Eagle Scouts are from Troop 5 — one of the oldest troops in the area. The troop was established in 1932.

Honored Sunday were Ryan Doyle, TJ Longacre and Derick Schmucker.

Ryan Doyle

Doyle’s Eagle Scout project was the Little League ball park brick patio with a Little League mosaic at the Little League Park in Goshen. His parents are Megan and Tim Doyle.

TJ Longacre

Longacre’s project was planting trees in Goshen in coordination with the Goshen Park Department and city forester Aaron Sawatsky-Kingsley. His parents are Mary Kay and Dan Longacre.

Derick Schmucker

Schmucker’s Eagle Scout project was creating park benches for the 4-H Shooting Sports club.

His parents are Angie and Harold Schmucker. Schmucker was the youngest of the three, earning his designation at the age of 15.

Presenting honors at the ceremony were Bill Rieth, committee chairman for the troop, and Jamie Clark, assistant Scoutmaster (recently retired as Scout Master), and Scout Master Kevin Strite.
