WHAT'S GOIN' ON: Community fair, open house Sunday at Goshen College

GOSHEN — Local residents will have an opportunity to explore renovated spaces at Goshen College, experience a live broadcast of 91.1 The Globe and win prizes, including an iPad mini, during a community fair and open house today from 2 to 4 p.m.

Visitors are invited explore the newly renovated Union Building space, which includes a new Welcome Center, the recently established Center for Intercultural and International Education, and 91.1 The Globe’s revamped radio station. The event will also feature student musicians and performers, face painting, student and faculty artwork, and food.

Guests will also have the chance to register for a number of giveaways in addition to an iPad mini, including Performing Arts Series tickets, a college cabin rental, passes to the college’s Recreation-Fitness Center, a Music Together class for children, student artwork and tickets for upcoming student musical and theater performances.

Goshen College’s student-run radio station, 91.1 The Globe, will broadcast live from the lobby of the Union building, and guests will have the opportunity to meet the one-air personalities and experience the radio station in operation.

Historical Museum program — The Elkhart County Historical Museum will be the site of a “Palm Sunday Tornado Remembrance” event at 1 p.m.

This year will mark the 48th year since a string of tornadoes struck the Midwest in 1965. Four confirmed tornadoes touched down in Elkhart County that led to the death of 62 people and thousands of dollars in damage.

Admission to the museum  event is free.

This year’s program will focus on the recovery efforts that took place after the tornadoes swept through the area.

Staff at the museum will present stories and photos of what was done to clean up the damage and comfort those who had lost something on that day.

Next weekend

Easter brunch — LaGrange American Legion will host an Easter brunch from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, March 31, at Post 215, 100 Industrial Pkwy., LaGrange. There will be egg casseroles, sausage links, French toast, quiches, bacon, sausage and gravy with biscuits, ham, potatoes, fresh fruit, salads, desserts, turkey and drinks.

The cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 12 and younger. Children younger than 5 can eat free.

    Tuesday morning, Goshen water crews shut down the water main on Huron Street to replace a broken fire hydrant.
    The Indiana Department of Environmental Management requires the Water Utility to issue a boil water order for the affected area, which is Huron Street from West Lincoln to Pike Street.
