ELKHART COUNTY FAIR: Chronicling county 4-H fair is the Wise choice

Editor's note: The above video and more from the 2013 Elkhart County 4-H Fair can be found at The Goshen News' YouTube channel.

GOSHEN — One day, Brittany Wise and one of her sisters were looking through a list of 4-H clubs offered in Elkhart County. They spotted the Media Club, and thought it sounded like fun and that they could do it.

“It was kind of a whim, but it worked,” Wise recalled earlier this week at the Elkhart County 4-H Fair.

Wise graduated from Northridge High School in June. She’s been in the Media Club for eight years, and is a 10-year 4-H member.

“My whole family’s been involved” in the 4-H program, she said. “My sisters were 10-year members.”

Through the Media Club, Wise is on the staff of the Clover Chronicles, published throughout fair week and available at the fairgrounds. She was the editor of the Monday issue, and was set to be a co-editor of the edition to be published today.

“I do a lot of writing,” Wise said Tuesday night of fair week. “I’ve done probably five articles so far (this fair), but I work during the day, so it cuts down on my articles.”

Wise indicated the most fun/interesting piece she’d worked on during the 2013 fair was about Fair Queen Sierra Walter.

“I was a fair queen contestant, last year and the year before,” she said. “And I knew Sierra the three years that she was in it, and we met each other really well and got along.

“...It’s so much fun meeting everyone that you get to interview and just getting to know who they are and what they do,” she continued.

Wise has a zest for photography, and hopes to attend the New York Institute of Photography in the fall. She said she would love to photograph children and senior pictures, and do wedding photography.

“Most of the time, if I’m co-writer with someone (on Clover Chronicles), I’ll write a little bit of the article but I’ll take all the pictures,” Wise said with a laugh.
