Goshen percussionists earn No. 1 ranking

DAYTON, Ohio — Percussionists from Goshen High School have triumphed in preliminary competition at the Winter Guard International Percussion World Championships in Dayton, Ohio.

GHS band director Tom Cox reported that local musicians came in first out of 18 schools in Open Concert Class competition today. Judges gave the Goshen group a rating of 93.825. The Open Concert Class finals are scheduled for Friday.  

Overall WGI contests continue through Saturday.

The GHS percussionists — a concert unit and a movement group — became eligible for WGI competition by finishing first at the state competition for the concert group and third for the movement group last month.

Last weekend (July 12) the Goshen Parks Department held its Kid’s Try-athlon to promote childhood fitness and this week (July 18) the new bicycle trail is open to the fairgrounds in Goshen, offering residents a healthy way to get to the annual agriculture exposition.
