Teen summer reading program as popular as ever

GOSHEN — The Goshen Public Library’s summer reading programs are in full swing and seeing record participation.

According to Leah Schroeder, young adult services coordinator for the library, there has been record participation in the Teen Summer Reading Program.

Schroeder said that the theme this year is “50 Years of Summer” and they are featuring activities from each decade from the 1950s through the 2000s.

The ’50s activities included beat poetry and a trip to the South Side Soda Shop.

Last week activities were 1960s-themed and included making tie-dye T-shirts, a trip to Ignition Music and a drum circle.

The program runs five weeks and has been popular with the teens, Schroeder said.

“This theme really resonates with the kids,” she said.

While the program is free, Schroeder said that due to popularity it is best to call the library ahead of time to see if there is space for that day’s activity.

However, she said any teens can get involved in the reading portion of the program and enter to win prizes by reading over the summer.
