OSMC opens in Goshen

GOSHEN — Patients in need of joint or back surgery and physical and occupational therapy, have a brand new facility to utilize in Goshen.

OSMC, a provider of orthopedic medical services throughout Elkhart County, has opened its newest facility along Kercher Road on Goshen’s south side.

“We provide coverage for Elkhart County and wanted to make a commitment to the citizens of Goshen,” said Jaime Wrigley, marketing director for OSMC. “It makes it easier. They don’t have to drive to one of our other offices.”

The Goshen office is the fourth location for OSMC, a medical business operated by a group of physicians. It replaces a small, temporary office that was being used on Winsted Drive. The other offices are in Nappanee, Middlebury and on California Road in Elkhart.

Large facility

The new Goshen office is spacious, covering 20,000 square feet. The facility has a large waiting room, 16 examination rooms, two rooms for medical procedures and two X-ray rooms. The rooms extend along a crescent from two central nursing stations.

For those who need physical or occupational therapy after suffering an injury or undergoing surgery, there is a large physical therapy room that has a glass wall that overlooks a landscaped courtyard. Weight and resistance machines, treadmills, steps and assorted other equipment used to strengthen limbs and bodies are in aligned in neat rows. Another room has equipment for occupational therapy services.

OSMC is celebrating its 40th anniversary year. According to Wrigley and Pam Pfeil, Goshen facility manager, the medical practice has 19 physicians, 10 of whom provide services in Goshen on an as-needed basis. Six full-time employees staff the building and there are five therapists who rotate among OSMC’s offices who provide services in Goshen.

“As our population continues to age,” Wrigley said in a news release, “We’re seeing an increasing need for advanced orthopedic care in the Michiana region. Couple that with the ongoing strong demand for other aspects of our practice, including pain management and podiatry, and it’s clear that the organization must follow an aggressive growth strategy to meet the need.”

As part of its growth strategy, the company recently moved its business office out of the California Road clinic to a building on Fulton Street in Elkhart to provide more clinical room. OSMC also recently added two physicians, back and spine surgeon Joe Caldwell and podiatrist Julia Pagano.

The Goshen office is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The company will hold a grand opening with public tours July 16 from 4 to 7 p.m.
