New Miss Elkhart County to be crowned

GOSHEN — A new Miss Elkhart County will be crowned Sunday afternoon at Goshen Middle School.

Jackie (Jerlecki) Sharpley, Miss Indiana 2011, will be co-hosting the annual scholarship pageant alongside her husband, Evan Sharpley, former Notre Dame quarterback and host of Notre Dame radio on 96.1 FM/960 AM WSBT. Special guests of the pageant will include Miss Indiana 2013 Terrin Thomas and Mekayla Diehl, Miss Indiana USA, who was also Miss Elkhart County 2011.

The contest begins at 4:30 p.m. at the middle school. Tickets are $10 at the door and $7 for senior citizens ages 65 and older and children ages 10 and younger.

Twelve contestants will be vying for the title of Miss Elkhart County and the chance to become Miss Indiana in Zionsville, Ind., in June.

• Elise Goodman — Age, 21; talent, dance; platform, Promoting a Positive Self-Image to Adolescent Girls; school, Anderson University

• Mackenzie Klahr — Age, 20; talent, vocal; platform, 3 E’s to a Woman’s Self Esteem~Educate, Elevate, Empower!; school, Ball State University

• Jordan Enfield — Age, 18; talent, lyrical dance; platform, Sarah Strong-Colon Cancer Awareness; school, Bethel College

• Gracie Lyons — Age, 22; talent, vocal; platform, Mentoring: It Matters; school, University of Indianapolis

• Michaela Piatt — Age, 19; talent, vocal; platform, Step In T.I.M.E.-The Importance of Music Education; school, Indiana University-South Bend

• Carrie Shank — Age, 20; talent, jazz dance; platform, Life Through Music; school, Manchester University

• Jessica Gorden — Age, 17; talent, martial arts routine; platform, Encouragement for Women to Take a Self Defense Class; school, Elkhart Central High School
