Church program aims to put healthy foods into pantries

ELKHART — Church Community Services’ Seed to Feed program is in full swing and the program has already donated thousands of pounds of fresh produce to area food banks, according to organizers.

The program aims to grow fresh produce and donate to Elkhart County food banks with the help of local farmers who volunteer land, cattle, seeds and manpower.

According to farmer Kurt Bullard, who donates two acres of his land for a Seed to Feed garden, the program is trying to focus on educating patrons who receive the donated food from the pantries.

“Somehow we got away from knowing at least how to feed ourselves,” he said. “I think it teaches you about the planet, the environment.”

The program has five gardens this year and is always looking for volunteers to help harvest, weed and otherwise maintain the gardens.

For more information about how to get involved visit the program’s website at churchcommunityservices.org/services/seed-to-feed/.

There has been discussion at West Goshen Elementary School to require mandatory student uniforms in the future. How do you feel about the prospect of mandatory student uniforms in a public school environment?

I think it’s an excellent idea that is way overdue
I think it’s a bad idea and would be restrictive for students and parents.
