— SHIPSHEWANA — A queen-sized triple Irish chain quilt will be the featured showpiece at this year’s annual Habitat for Humanity Benefit Auction.

The auction will take place in the Shipshewana Auction Barn Friday, Aug. 2.

The quilt auction draws a large crowd from around the Midwest.

Besides the showpiece quilt there will be dozens of others with designs, including Broken Star, Lone Star, Sampler, Mariners Compass, Star Fan and Log Cabin. Along with quilts, there are comforters, rugs, furniture, household items, crafts, a queen buggy, vacations, hotel packages, 4-H meats, many miscellaneous items and a bake sale items to be offered.

Over the past 18 years of service, LaGrange Habitat has provided more than 22 homes for LaGrange County families. Plus the group has served five families through its home repair program called “A Brush with Kindness.”

New this year, the group is taking on a home renovation project.

Crews repair and renovate rather than starting from the ground up. It is a part of their new Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative.
