Kickstarter project set for Goshen's Art House

GOSHEN — Organizers at Art House — formerly known as New World Arts — announced Friday the launch of a Kickstarter project to install an independent film theater in downtown Goshen.

Located on the second floor of 211 S. Main St. in a building built in 1889, the Art House space contains an 80-seat black box theater, dance studio and artist studios. The film theater is planned as the newest element.

According to artistic director Adrienne Nesbitt, Art House received a matching grant of $15,000 from the Elkhart County Community Foundation to fund the digital cinema equipment needed to show the films.

Through Kickstarter, many small donors can raise a large amount through a process called “crowd funding.” Nesbitt reported that since 2009, more than 4.7 million people have pledged more than $773 million via Kickstarter, funding more than 48,000 creative projects.

Nesbitt said Art House Films will showcase new, old, indie cult classic movies. Audience suggestions for films will be taken through a Facebook page. Nesbitt also said there will be also be “showings of TV finales, live events, World Cup games (and) royal births.” The venue will also be a place for nightly, weekend and late-night showings.

Upcoming Art House events include a volunteer cleanup day today. On Oct. 5, a GoProv improvisational comedy show is planned at the venue.
