Bicyclist hit by car, breaks leg

— GOSHEN — A Goshen bicyclist was seriously injured when he was struck by a vehicle Thursday night.

The crash occurred at 6:23 p.m. on C.R. 127 north of C.R. 28, two miles east of Goshen. Elkhart County police said bicyclist Dale Ewers, 38, Goshen, was traveling east on the bike path west of C.R. 127. A 2013 Toyota Highlander driven by Milton Bontrager, 68, Louisville, Ky., was headed south on C.R. 127.

Police said Ewers started to cross C.R. 127 into the path of the Bontrager’s vehicle. The Toyota struck the cyclist.

Ewers suffered head injuries and a fractured left leg and was transported to Memorial Hospital.

Ewers’ condition wasn’t available Thursday night.
