School fight puts teen in area hospital

A West Noble High School student was transported to Parkview Hospital after a late-morning fight at the school Thursday.

The fight occurred around 11:30 a.m.

“We did have a student injured in an altercation with another student,” West Noble school Superintendent Dennis VanDuyne said Friday.

The fight between the two 17-year-old juniors took place in a school hallway. Emergency medical personnel transported the injured boy to the Fort Wayne hospital.

As for why the altercation happened, VanDuyne said, “All we really know is they’ve been having an online dispute for some time.”

Neither school nor police officials released the names of the students, or provided information about the nature of the injuries. They did say no weapons were involved in the fight.

“To my knowledge, it was strictly hands,” said Chad Willett, chief deputy with the Noble County Sheriff’s Department.

Willett said the investigation into the incident is continuing and charges are pending. VanDuyne said the non-injured student wasn’t at school Friday.

“We are going through a disciplinary process right now with that,” VanDuyne said.
