Motorcyclists join together to honor fallen first responders

GOSHEN — Hundreds of motorcyclists took to the roads of Elkhart County Sunday afternoon for the 15th annual Riding to Remember Fallen Police, Firefighter and Veteran Charity Ride.

Numerous motorcycle clubs and groups came together to make the ride happen Sunday, including: Hoosier Harley Davidson, Michiana Harley Owners Group, North End Cycle, Blue Knights Law Enforcement and Axemen Firefighter NCI motorcycle clubs, Elkhart Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 52 and International Association of Firefighters 338.

Participants in Sunday’s ride first gathered at Hoosier Harley Davidson in Elkhart. The ride officially kicked off at 2:30 p.m. Riders were escorted by police and fire units, the Indiana National Guard, members of military motorcycle clubs, Blue Knights Law Enforcement and Axemen Firefighter motorcycle clubs.

The route taken by the riders during Sunday’s event went through Elkhart, Wakarusa, Nappanee and Goshen, ending at approximately 3:45 p.m.

Bikers parked on Fifth Street and headed to East Washington Street toward the Goshen Police Department Memorial at the corner of Jefferson and Fifth streets for a special memorial service.

Following the memorial service, participants were invited to attend a free concert at Central Park, Elkhart, featuring the River City Band at 5:15 p.m. Food and beverages were also provided at the conclusion of the ride for all paid participants.
