Wholesale shipments of recreational vehicles rose by 18.6 percent in September over September 2012 to 22,498 units, according to the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association.
According to the RVIA, the total was the best shipment number in September in six years. All towable RVs rose nearly 2,500 units, or 14.8 percent above September’s total in 2012. Motorhome shipments were up 46.3 percent, with deliveries to retailers amounting to 3,317 units.
Overall RV shipments for the first nine months of 2013 were up 12.4 percent through September, reaching 248,623 total units, according to the RVIA. Travel trailer remained the largest vehicle category, gaining 12.1 percent with fifth wheel trailers up 6.5 percent so far this year. In the motorhomes category, type A shipments have grown 32.9 percent while type C motorhomes are up 46.1 percent.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, according to the RVIA, RV shipments continued ahead in September where the annualized rate was more than 310,000 units, approximately 7 percent higher than last month and nearly 19 percent ahead of this same month last year.
