Multiple crews battle blaze at Buckridge Court residence

GOSHEN — Firefighters were battling a blaze at a home northeast of Goshen Friday night.

The fire at 18280 Buckridge Court, home of Roelf Kuitse, was called in to emergency dispatchers at 6:16 p.m. Kuitse discovered the fire shortly after he arrived home from work.

“I noticed that my driveway lights didn’t come on when I drove up,” he said outside the residence as the firefight continued Friday evening. “And then my garage door wouldn’t open. I thought that was weird.”

Kuitse said that when he opened the door into his house “there was big smoke and it was super, super hot. So I closed it right away and called the fire department.”

Kuitse’s home is located east of Zollinger Road off Buttonbush Lane, north of Norton Lake.

Elkhart and Jefferson township personnel were among the firefighters at the scene Friday night.
