Independence Day events set

There will be no lack of opportunities to celebrate Independence Day this weekend.

Fireworks displays can be found throughout the weekend.

Tonight fireworks are set for Rice Field in Elkhart, Stauffer Park in Nappanee and East Park in Topeka at 10 p.m. and Syracuse Lake in Syracuse at dusk.

On Saturday, fireworks will be shot off at the LaGrange County Fairgrounds at 10 p.m. on Lake Wawasee at dusk.

And on Sunday, a fireworks display will light up the skies over Black Squirrel Golf Course in Goshen at dusk.

Wawasee Flotilla

Syracuse will be hosting its 53rd annual Wawasee Flotilla all weekend, as well.

Today is the Flotilla Road Race and then fireworks at dusk.

On Saturday, there will be a parade in Syracuse at 10 a.m. and the Wawasee Flotilla will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Lake Wawasee. The theme is “Get Your Game On.”

Boaters should gather in front of the Wawasee Spink at 1 p.m. with their boats decorated in a game theme. The parade begins at 1:30 p.m. and will move clockwise around the lake.

Pier owners are also asked to decorate their piers in the same theme.

Celebrate America

In Goshen, the annual Celebrate America! Patriotic Show and Fireworks show will take place at Black Squirrel Golf Course, just off Ind. 119 Sunday.

The show will begin at 8 p.m. and feature Fascinating Rhythm and The Frye Family Band.

Fireworks will begin at dusk.

There will be free parking at 1st Baptist Church of Goshen, The Life Center and at Goshen Middle School.

Nappanee

Today from 8 a.m. through 10 p.m., Nappanee will be celebrating Independence Day with games, karaoke, talent shows, music and fireworks at Stauffer Park.

The Big Cup Tournament at McCormick Creek Golf Course starts at 8 a.m.

The Junior Olympics will start at 9 a.m. at Stauffer Park Little League Diamond, with registration beginning at 8:15 a.m. This is for children ages 5 to 12. The cost is $5 per child and each child receives a T-shirt.
