RV shipments up 12.4 percent in 2013

Shipments of recreational vehicles from manufacturers to dealers were up 12.4 percent in 2013.

According to the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association, 321,127 units were shipped. It was the fourth-consecutive annual increase for the industry. According to Bill Baker, senior director of communications for RVIA, the 2013 total was almost twice the number of RVs shipped in 2009 during the recession.

For December, the gain was even greater, Baker said. December shipments jumped by 14.3 percent, reaching 21,676 units. It was the largest December total in six years, according to RVIA.

Shipment totals come from a survey of manufacturers.
