Police are searching for a man wanted on numerous drug charges after he reportedly fled police in a car, then crashed that car and left two injured companions behind as he ran away.
According to the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department, Jason A. Adkins, who was wanted by police on several warrants, was the driver of a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix that an officer attempted to stop for speeding at 9:05 p.m. Friday on C.R. 100 East near C.R. 300 North. Police said the driver sped away and then crashed the car near 1635 E. 400 North. The car left the road and struck several trees and fence posts.
Police said Adkins fled on foot into a nearby swamp and eluded officers. Police said they found a methamphetamine lab in the car and arrested two passengers, Brianne E. Benac, 20, 9145 W. U.S. 20, lot 31, Angola and Jeremy W. Brock 26, 1205 W. Mill Street, Lot 27, Angola. They were arrested on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug precursors and assisting a criminal.
Police said Brock and Benac suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Police are seeking charges against Adkins of resisting law enforcement, leaving the scene of an injury accident, possession of methamphetamine, possession of precursors with intent to manufacture methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance, fleeing, criminal recklessness with a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police are asking for the public’s help in locating Adkins. They said he has places to stay in LaGrange, Noble and Steuben counties and in Hillsdale County in Michigan.
