ELKHART — In celebration of January as National Mentoring Month, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Elkhart County will present the movie “The Blind Side” in association with the Lakeshore Railroad Historical Foundation. This feature movie will be shown at The Lerner Theatre Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. (doors will open at 5:30 p.m.). The movie is free to the public and donations will be accepted.
Prior to the movie showing, Mayor Moore’s office will be delivering a Proclamation to kick off January as Mentoring Month for the City of Elkhart at 6:30 p.m. The media is invited to attend.
The Blind Side, starring Quinton Aaron and Sandra Bullock, is based on a true-life story about Michael Oher, an abandoned boy with little future, who was taken in by a caring family who wanted to see him succeed. “We chose The Blind Side because the film demonstrates the importance for adults to respond to the need of children for caring mentors in their lives,” stated Stephanie Patka, Executive Director. “The work of mentors teaches children how to believe in themselves and overcome all odds.”
Big Brothers Big Sisters matches local children with an adult mentor in a staff supported one-to-one relationship. For information or to volunteer, please contact the office at 574.875.1039 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
