Nappanee community gives a last salute to a fallen officer on the 25th anniversary of his death

---- — BREMEN — Friends, family members and colleagues of Brant “Butch” Nine, a Nappanee police officer shot and killed in the line of duty Nov. 3, 1988, gathered at the Bremen Cemetery early Sunday evening to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Nine’s death with a final remembrance and celebration of life ceremony. The event began at 4:40 p.m. with a procession from the Nappanee Police Department to the Bremen Cemetery, where the service began at 5 p.m. At approximately 6 p.m., celebration attendees made their way back to Nappanee to Grace Point Church, 1155 N. Main St., for a reception. During the reception, the family had a special room with a video set up to record memories for Nine’s children and grandchildren. A memory book was also made available during the reception and people were encouraged to prepare their written memories in advance to bring to the reception.
