A former assistant coach at Wawasee High School has been charged with a Class D felony count of sexual misconduct with a minor.
Joshua D. Secor, 20, 2666 E. 700 North, Leesburg, was arrested Tuesday, according to Kosciusko County Jail personnel. Secor was later released on a $2,000 bond.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the Wawasee dean of students told Syracuse police Oct. 18 he’d received information that Secor was possibly involved in a relationship with a 14-year-old student.
Police spoke to the same person who’d informed the dean. She reported seeing Secor and the girl engaging in possible sexual activity Oct. 14 and 16. According to the affidavit, the incidents occurred in vehicles outside the 14-year-old pupil’s home.
Wawasee school Superintendent Thomas Edington said Wednesday that Secor had been a volunteer assistant coach for the boys’ soccer team from August through mid-October.
Edington said that around the conclusion of the boys’ soccer season, Secor was told he was “no longer needed” as a coach. Edington indicated that dismissal was linked to the police investigation. He also said school officials have cooperated with authorities.
