Goshen's Blue Star a growing IT company

GOSHEN — Like so many successful American enterprises have done, Blue Start IT Services and Solutions began at a home.

Now, the Goshen company has grown to occupy a historic downtown building and will soon be hiring its 12th employee.

“There was myself, and a part-time accountant,” said Jon Morningstar, founder and president of the company.

The business began in 2004 and by 2005 Morningstar’s venture had grown enough to form a partnership with his brother Luke and they opened an office in Waterford. Then in 2007 the business relocated to 220 S. Main St., Suite 150.

Morningstar said he had been moonlighting servicing people’s computers ever since he was in college at Indiana University South Bend.

“I worked in IT at MMA at the time and I had a couple of business accounts, actually LaCasa was my first account, I have been working with them  on a consultant basis with their computers since 1998. So they are our oldest account...

“I just knew somebody who worked there and they got us in to help them with a little project that they had, “ Jon said. “We actually ended up helping them get a couple of work stations and then getting their first server back in 1999.”

From there other business owners heard about Morningstar’s ability to keep computer systems up and running and the business grew through word of mouth.

Those who have a hard time staying current with the capabilities of their latest phone app or computer operating systems, should appreciate how IT workers like the Morningstars have to stay current on a variety of business and personal computer systems as well as all the smart phone systems that owners want to use at work.

“Lot of training, lots of reading, lots of... research and setting up test networks,” is how Jon said he and his staff stay current on new technologies.

He said the staff uses new systems at work so they can learn to understand them.

“Everything  changes,” he said. “That’s the constant, everything changes. Nothing that we do today would even have existed back then (2004),” he said.

He said he and some of his clients have four devices, a phone, a laptop, a tablet and a desktop computer, that all have to be synchronized to work togehter.
