---- — NAPPANEE — Dodgeball players took some hits for a good cause Tuesday.
The annual Rotary Dodgeball Tournament at Nappanee Elementary School raised about $1,000. The money will be used to purchase buy two goals for the town soccer complex, according to Rotairan Denny Martin.
Martin said club members have also applied for a grant through Rotary International to put toward that cause as well.
Eleven teams played in the tournament, which was sponsored by Ace Hardware, Interra Federal Credit Union, Dal Mar Catering, Jenkins Auto, Phil Jenkins, Kemp Electric, Kountry Wood Products, NAPA, Nappanee Police Department and NTA.
The teams played three-minute matches with double elimination rounds. The winning team for the third consecutive year was Legion of Boom, sponsored by Dal Mar Catering.
Officials for the tournament were Scott Honeycutt, Jordan Adam, Heath Yoder, Bob Stats, Gale Gerber and Don Lehman.
Last year proceeds from the tournament supported the tree project — several trees were planted along C.R. 7 and memorials were placed for deceased Rotary members, according to Martin.
