American Girl Doll event set for Saturday in Bristol

BRISTOL — Elkhart County Historical Museum staffers will host the annual American Girl Doll Day at the museum Saturday.

Two sessions are planned that day at 10 a.m.  and 2 p.m. The cost of the event is $5 per child. Registration is due by Thursday by calling the Elkhart County Parks administration office at 574-535-6458.

This year’s event will feature the American Girl Doll Caroline Abbott, a girl from Western New York who helps her mother run her family’s shipyard after the father is captured during the War of 1812. Program attendees will do crafts and activities that center on Caroline’s story and the War of 1812.

“This event lets the museum build on the interest children already have in history through these dolls,” said museum curator of education Patrick McGuire.

Also at the event, American Girl Doll-related prizes will be awarded, including the Caroline Abbott doll and book. Girls are encouraged to bring their dolls, but it is not required. Everyone is welcome to attend the program whether or not they have a doll

The museum’s regular hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday through Saturday.  There is no charge for admission, but donations are accepted.  For more information, visit the website www.elkhartcountyhistory.org.

The museum is located at 304 W. Vistula (Ind. 120) in Bristol.
