---- — EMMA — A Millersburg boy is Westview’s geography bee winner.

Ryan Schlabach, son of Freeman and Jane Schlabach, made it through a preliminary round in December and the final competition round Jan. 14. He is a fifth-grader in Suzie Sheets’ class. Ryan will go on to take a qualifier test. The state’s top 100 scorers are invited to advance to March’s state competition.

Runner-up was Jack McCoy, son of Michael and Nikole McCoy of Wolcottville. He is a sixth-grader in Travis Davis’ class.

The other students who were in the final competition included Drew Miller, Loren Miller, Amber Stutzman, Logan Baugh, Andre Stutzman, Aleka Ernsberger, Lindsay Stoltzfus and Corrina Hochstetler.

Westview Elementary School Principal Juli Leeper and bee coordinator Ronda Hostetler conducted the bee in the school’s media center. The competition consisted of a final round and a championship round. Final round questions were asked for seven rounds until the number of contestants was reduced to two. The two finalists then competed in the championship round. Winners were determined on the most correct answers in a three-question set.
