Cellular Connection stores issuing free backpacks Saturday

GOSHEN — The first day of school is just around the corner. For families that need school supplies, The Cellular Connection, a Verizon premium wireless retailer, is giving away backpacks filled with school supplies this Saturday.

From noon to 2 p.m. at both The Cellular Connection stores in Goshen — 301 S. Main St., and 2712 Caragana Court — anyone may stop by with their children and obtain a free backpack.

Between the two stores there are 400 to 450 backpacks to be given away.

Scott Bontreger, manager of the Caragana Court store, said, “We don’t want any left over.”

He added that people do not have to be Verizon customers or Goshen residents — anyone may come. The only requirement is that they have their child or children with them.

The giveaway is part of a nationwide giveaway by The Cellular Connection. Approximately 60,000 supply-filled backpacks are being given away across the United States through its School Rocks Backpack Giveaway initiative.

The backpacks will be filled with pencils, paper, a pencil box, folders, glue and more. Backpacks will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

Any leftover backpacks will be donated to local schools.

Goshen-area residents have also helped contributed to this cause. Since the beginning of May, TCC customers have been given the option to round their purchases up to the nearest dollar with the difference going directly toward the School Rocks Backpack Giveaway.
