Annual ice festival in Shipshe runs through today

Goshen News

---- — SHIPSHEWANA — Power tools buzzed and ice chips flew Friday afternoon as carvers created sculptures in ice blocks. The frozen fun was part of the Shipshewana Ice Festival that continues today.

The carvers worked on large blocks of ice as many of the town’s stores stayed open until 8 p.m.

Today, carvers will be at the Davis Mercantile parking lot designing sculptures in a competition to earn cash awards. The public is invited to watch and photograph the carvers in action.

As part of the celebration, the Fifth Annual Chili Cook-Off will also be held at the parking lot. Shoppers can purchase an Ice Festival Pin that will get them into the cook-off and will be good for discounts at town stores through January.
