Bristol — A fire and two deaths in a Bristol mobile home earlier this month are being considered accidental, Elkhart County police reported Friday.
Police said the investigation continues into the deaths of Crissinda Kabay, 66, and Chad Russell, 42. According to investigators, the fire may have been caused by “improperly discarded smoking materials.”
Around 7 a.m. Dec. 16, a fire was reported at the residence at 526 N. Arbutus in Timberbrook Mobile Home Park. Elkhart County police were called to the scene after firefighters found Kabay and Russell deceased in the home.
The police investigation, which included the state Fire Marshal’s report, determined that the origin of the fire was at the southeast corner of the living room. Investigators said medical oxygen tanks were located in the home, but it is unknown if they contributed to the blaze.
