Favorite sports images of the year

GOSHEN — The photos on this page are a selection of my favorite sports photos from the past year.

Sports photography is one of the most important things I do for The Goshen News. I generally shoot sports three or four times a week during the school year and while my wife probably wishes I didn’t have to work that late so often, it’s just a part of my duties.

From tennis to soccer to softball to track, I cover the gamut of sports. This year I even shot some motorsports when I went to the New Paris Speedway.

I like to shoot at least two Notre Dame football games a year and this season I picked the USC game and the home opener against Temple. It was fun to shoot the big rivalry game against the Trojans and I got some good photos of the Irish defense’s dominating performance, including an interception that happened right in front of me.

Football is my favorite sport to shoot and that probably shows with the large number of football photos I picked. I also picked a couple of sports photos from the Elkhart County 4-H Fair — the demolition derby and the rodeo.

It was another action-packed sports year and I’m sure 2014 will bring its share of sports moments for me to capture.
