Fun area designed for children with family in Parkview LaGrange Hospital

LAGRANGE — Parkview LaGrange Hospital’s Terrace Café serves many families each week, some as they visit a loved one who is hospitalized, others as they visit for Sunday lunch after church.

Dietary Supervisor Nateeka “Skeeter” Clawson saw an opportunity to help focus kids on healthy things, including nutrition and active games, by providing them with an area filled with activities designed just for them.

“It seemed like a great opportunity for the kids to have fun while remaining within view of their parents and grandparents as they enjoy adult conversation,” Clawson said. “I approached the Parkview LiVe Program and they took to the idea right away. They even assisted with funding of kid-sized furniture for the area, made by a local Amish craftsman. They also provided some of our games and activity books for the kids.”

As the area came together, the hospital’s plant operations group joined in the fun, assisting with playful signage and vivid colors for the furniture.

“We hope the Kid’s Korner will help children to be comfortable coming to the hospital,” Clawson said, “that it will make them a little less scared if they have to come to the hospital for services because they’ve already had fun experiences here.”
