UPDATE: One killed, one injured in van-buggy crash

GOSHEN — A van and a horse-drawn buggy collided today on Ind. 119, between C.R.s 15 and 38, around 5:35 p.m.

Elkhart County police spokesman Capt. Jim Bradberry confirmed shortly before 8 p.m. that someone had died as a result of the crash.

Earlier, police at the scene said two people were injured in the crash southwest of Goshen. Emergency dispatchers confirmed that one person was thrown from the buggy.

Dispatchers also said that Medflight air ambulance was called to the scene, and the crew made it about halfway there from their base at South Bend Memorial Hospital. However, weather conditions changed and the helicopter was flown back to the hospital.

The Goshen News will provide more details about the crash as they become available.
