The D Bar S Overholt Arena Rodeo Co. officials are holding a special New Year’s Spectacular this Sunday at their heated indoor arena on C.R. 17 across from the Toll Road entrance.
The event will feature top bull riders from the Midwest, including Troy Carnes, 2006 World Champion Bull Rider for the International Professional Rodeo Association.
Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children.
The 29-year-old Carnes works construction when not participating in rodeos.
Barrel racing will also be a part of the event along with prizes and games for children ages 4 to 12. Winners of the games will receive one of three bicycles.
“If it goes well, we’re going to hopefully do another one like it in March,” Shelli Overholt said. “We’d like to do a couple of these each year.”
D Bar S holds several rodeos every year, but this one was added at the last minute, not a part of the normal schedule.
“Gas and diesel prices are so expensive we wanted something close to home for people to go to,” Nicole Rawlings, a close friend of Overholt’s, said. “It’s something fun for contestants and spectators. Plus there will be better people here than you’d normally expect.”
The rodeo, which will run from 5 p.m. to approximately 8 p.m., is being sponsored by Lakota Trailers, Eby Ford Lincoln Mercury and Christenson Industries.
