Carbon monoxide kills Elkhart boy

THE GOSHEN NEWS

The Elkhart County Coroner John White has determined that carbon monoxide poisoning killed an 11-year-old Elkhart boy who was found unconscious in his room Saturday.

White has ruled that Misael Adame had a level of 70 percent carbon monoxide in his system. Anything above 10 percent is considered potentially lethal.

Elkhart Police Lt. Ed Windbigler said the boy’s parents and a 6-year-old girl were treated at a hospital and released after a high level of carbon monoxide was found in the home on Saturday.

Police said Misael’s room in the basement had much higher levels of the gas than the rest of the home. Investigators did not immediately determine the source of the carbon monoxide leak.
