LaGrange community Thanksgiving dinner scheduled

The LaGrange Community Thanksgiving dinner for senior and disabled citizens will take place Tuesday at First Church of God, located along North Detroit Street in LaGrange. The meals will be served from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and there is no cost. The dinner is sponsored by the LaGrange Area Ministerial Association, Parkview Hospital and Farmers State Bank.

American Legion

LaGrange American Legion Post 215 will serve a chicken buffet with salad bar Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. The cost is $8 and the public is invited. The Legion is located north of LaGrange along Industrial Drive.

On Sunday, the Legion will have an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet from 8 to 11 a.m. The cost is $5 and includes eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, french toast, doughnuts, juices and coffee. The public is invited. The Legion is located north of LaGrange on Industrial Drive.

Chicken barbecue

A King’s chicken barbecue will take place at the LaGrange County Courthouse Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. The cost is $5 per half. The proceeds will go to support the Brethren Retreat Center Ministry of Shipshewana.

Father-daughter formal ball

A father-daughter formal ball will take place Dec. 5 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Farmstead Conference Center in Shipshewana. The dance is for girls in grades one through 13 and their fathers.

There will be dancing, door prizes, hors d’oeuvres and more. Proceeds from the event will go to Compassion Pregnancy Centers of Northeast Indiana.

Tickets can be purchased at the Farmstead Inn in Shipshewana, Dutch Blessings in Shipshewana, Cutting Edge in LaGrange, My Father’s Business in LaGrange, Crystal Valley Furniture in Middlebury or Topeka Pharmacy.

Library news

Who has the best pumpkin recipe in LaGrange County? You be the judge. Those who would like to judge pumpkin pies should go to the main library in LaGrange Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. to sample all of the dishes prepared by the “Heck’s Kitchen” contestants and vote for their favorite. Recipes will be available for each dish prepared.

To be a contestant, register at the LaGrange County Public Library located along Spring Street or call (260) 463-2841.

The LaGrange Public Library will have a story time for preschool- and kindergarten-age children Wednesday from 10 to 10:30 a.m. and 1 to 1:30 p.m. The story to be read is “The Very First Thanksgiving Day” by Rhonda Gowler Greene.

Knit for Victory will take place Nov. 27 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Participants may stop at the main library to knit, crochet, or sew hats and slippers to be sent to soldiers overseas via The Ships Project.

People should take their own materials and be sure to follow item guidelines, available from the library desk.

Park Department

Folk music jam sessions are hosted the fourth Sunday of each month.

Jam sessions are mostly folk, country and bluegrass music with other styles thrown in from time to time. The next folk jam session will be Sunday from 1:30 to 5 p.m.
