Marshal, deputy in right place to catch robbery suspects

By MONICA JOSEPH
THE GOSHEN NEWS

It was a case of right place, right time for Millersburg’s town marshal and a deputy when they helped arrest three armed robbery suspects in Goshen Friday morning.

Marshal Keith Hathaway and Deputy Bob Taylor were in Goshen for a meeting. They were just leaving that meeting around 11:20, when they heard dispatchers put out a call about an armed robbery at Francis Discoteca at 615 W. Lincoln Ave.

“We were in the area so we told them (dispatchers) we’d stand by at Peddler’s Village,” Hathaway said. “No sooner did we radio that than we saw the car (on U.S. 33.)”

Hathaway and Taylor followed as the suspects turned off U.S. 33 and drove north. Hathaway and Taylor continued to follow the suspects until two Elkhart County Sheriff’s patrol cars could catch up.

Hathaway said the three cars fanned out, one to the left, one closer to the center and one to the right before pulling the suspects over on C.R. 45, near C.R. 15. Goshen officers also assisted in the arrest.

The procedure is “to call the people back to you, get them out one at a time,” Hathaway said.

According to Goshen Assistant Chief Mike McCloughen, suspects taken into custody were Adrian Valdez, 21, Danny Rivera, 21 and Daniel Jarmaillo, 20.

“All three suspects are area residents and all three suspects are known gang members,” according to a release from McCloughen.

The money taken in the robbery and the weapons used were all recovered.

All three suspects were incarcerated at the Elkhart County Jail on charges of armed robbery and criminal gang activity. Valdez was also arrested on a charge of possession of marijuana and criminal mischief.
