Six arrested at large party

THE GOSHEN NEWS

Officers working a special assignment to stop alcohol use by teenagers broke up a large party in Goshen Sunday, resulting in six arrests and court appearances for as many as 34 others.

Responding to a complaint, officers working in the Sheriff’s Teenage Alcohol Reduction unit arrived at 61584 C.R. 33 about 6 a.m. Sunday. About 130 people were in attendance, and officers found alcoholic beverage containers scattered across the property.

The homeowner, Marion Mullett, 44, was arrested on a preliminary misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of minors.

Others arrested were:

• Glen Yoder, 19, of Millersburg, for resisting law enforcement and illegal consumption of alcohol;

• Matthew Miller, 18, of Topeka, for resisting law enforcement and illegal consumption of alcohol;

• Kristina Lehman, 18, of Topeka, for illegal consumption of alcohol;

• Michelle Miller, 18, of Goshen, for illegal consumption of alcohol; and

• A 17-year-old from Bremen, taken to the juvenile detention center for theft, escape, resisting law enforcement and illegal consumption of alcohol. The boy fled the scene and was later located at his home.

Of those cited and released at the scene, 14 were adults listing hometowns of Middlebury, Millersburg, Nappanee, Shipshewana, Topeka and Ligonier. Twenty individuals younger than age 18 were released to the custody of a parent or guardian with an expectation they will appear in juvenile court.

People with information about parties or other events involving alcohol use by people younger than legal drinking age can contact Sgt. Jeff Stutsman of the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, either at jstutsman@elkhartcountysheriff.com or 533-4151.
