Goshen High School offers free software to students

Goshen High School officials announced that the latest version of OpenEducationDisk is available to GHS students free of charge.

The disk includes 40 computer programs in the following topics: office and design, Internet browsing, art and graphics, multimedia, science and math, games and utilities

Featured on the disk is the Open Office.org office productivity suite. It includes the key desktop applications, including a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation manager and drawing program, with a user interface and feature set similar to other office suites. OpenOffice.org also works with a variety of file formats, including those of Microsoft Office.

Students who have a home computer but cannot afford or do not have access to the Microsoft Office suite can use Open Office.

Some of the other 40 programs included are:

Audacity: A sound editing program which can record, play back and mix sounds or apply effects using a variety of filters.

Blender: An advanced 3D graphics modeling program capable of producing high quality animations, performing rendering, post-production, interactive creation and playback.

Dia: To draw a variety of diagrams, such as entity-relationship models, flowcharts, network diagrams, and simple circuits.

Students may order CDs this week from their SRT teacher, and they will arrive in mid-November.
