Ligonier, Ind. — At the Ligonier Board of Works meeting Wednesday afternoon, the board approved storm sewer improvements for the Park Meadow subdivision at a cost of $6,000. The project will include a new drain on Third Street.
Board members also approved the engineering work needed for improvements on Ravine Park Drive, Joy Street, Pontiac Street and Sunnyside at a cost of $8,000. Parts of these improvements are required in order to complete the Union Street section of the Grand Street project.
A proposal from Schnelker Engineering for the engineering work on the design and construction of a new water tower and booster station at the West Noble High School property was taken under advisement. The engineering work will cost $51,250, if the project goes ahead.
Wastewater Project
Fetters Construction asked for and received approval for a change order in the amount of $11,183 for work on the wastewater upgrade project.
The changes were recommended by EMC, which manages the wastewater system under contract with the city.
The first part of the change order includes the installation of a protective cover and heater for the grit pump that removes materials that can interfere with the action of the plant digester. The heater prevents freezing of the pump, which, according to plant manager Scott Richey, could allow the digester to clog.
Part two of the change order adds a backup control to the primary effluent pump, to maintain plant effectiveness in the event of a failure of the pump’s computer control system.
Other City Business<
Board members approved Fire Chief Jeremy Weaver’s request for the purchase of fire emergency training manuals at a cost of $1,038.
The board reviewed two quotes for salt for city streets. The quotes came from North American for 300 tons of salt delivered at $52.99 per ton, and from Morten Salt at $51.13 per ton. The Morten Salt quote was approved.
The city contract with Cintas for uniforms for city employees was extended for another year, based on satisfactory performance of the supplier on the current contract, according to board members.
Board members considered a claim for $75 to cover the cost of a plumbing service call from Matt and Jenny Fought of 404 Union St. The claim alleged that the service call was required because of the effects of city street work.
No damages were described, and the board disallowed the claim, unless damage to the system can be demonstrated.
