Get your motors running

THE GOSHEN NEWS

A summer “cruise-in” is the theme of the July First Fridays.

Cars, mopeds and motorcycles will cruise and park around town Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. Two- and four-wheeled rides will be parked and driving. People are invited to just look or join in the cruises.

Vintage mo-ped rally

Vintage mo-ped owners will cruise into town and compete for “Best in Show” as a vintage moped rally kicks off Friday night. Mopeds will be parked on West Washington Street.

The rally continues Saturday, as 30 to 40 riders travel from Motion Left Mopeds in Elkhart to Krider’s Worlds Fair Gardens in Middlebury and end up back in Goshen at Rogers Park for a cookout and fireworks.

Motorbike Fun Run

Motorcyclists can sign-up at Cycle Works of Goshen, 1210 E. Lincoln Ave., starting at 4 p.m. Entry fee is $10 per person, with proceeds going to the Goshen Parks Department’s children’s programs.

The ride will take place rain or shine. Riders will leave Cycle Works at 6:30 p.m. and finish downtown, where bikes will be parked on East Washington Street.

Also, a four-wheeled cruise in will start at the Dairy Queen along U.S. 33 South around 5 p.m. The event is being billed as a reunion of sorts for those who used to cruise the Goshen strip (see the Web site gofridays.com for a map of the route.)

Participants are invited to cruise as long as they like and then can park downtown. There is no entry fee, but a booklet featuring some cruising memories will be distributed to participants.

The Goshen Historical Society Museum will again have a classic car on display in front of the museum.

In other activities, Graber Design Gallery will feature the work of Hannah Gerig Meyer, a Bethany Christian Schools art teacher

A Yoga for Heart Challenge is being coordinated by Spacious Heart Yoga. A group of yogis will be doing 108 sun salutations to raise money for yoga student scholarships. The challenge will take three to four hours to complete and participants of all ages and levels can sign up in advance at Spacious Heart or just join in during the course of the evening, outside on Washington Street.

Entertainment

Musical entertainment and food is planned on the courthouse lawn from 7 to 9 p.m., sponsored by Goshen First United Methodist Church.

Finding Favour, a Christian rock/worship band from Uvalda, Ga., will be performing. Mile 7, a harder rock Christian band from Louisville, Ky., is also scheduled to play.

Entertainment on Washington Street includes:

• From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Garner Wireman will have a drum circle and hold a raffle for a free drum.

• From 6 to 9 p.m., the “Balloon Bandit” will appear and face painting by Cliff and Allison Standiford will be offered.

• From 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Johnny 5, (formerly known as Tsunami Salamis), will be performing hits from 1970s to today.

First Fridays is a monthly event designed to highlight downtown Goshen.
