Topeka Quilt Show moves back to Honeyville School

THE GOSHEN NEWS

TOPEKA, Ind. — The Topeka Quilt Show & Sale is moving home to where it all began.

The 2008 event will be held in the historic Honeyville School which is now the home of Eden Worship Center, located one mile west of Ind. 5 on C.R. 400 South.

Hundreds of handcrafted quilts and quilted wall hangings will be on display and available for purchase. Vendors will also be on hand with quilting supplies.

Show dates and times are Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Admission is $4.

Honeyville resident Sue Chistner was the originator of the Topeka Quilt Show & Sale for a number of years. The event grew rapidly in popularity and outgrew her facility.

The show was moved to the Topeka United Methodist Church where it continued to grow and remained for more than 20 years. At the request of Methodist organizers, the annual show is being moved back to Honeyville.

“Frankly, we have been a bit overwhelmed by the magnitude of the event,” Eden Worship Center pastor Harold Gingerich said. “When the Methodist folks asked us if our church would take over the quilt show I said ‘Sure,’ but like many people in Topeka I had no idea just how many people attend every year and the vast number of quilted items that are exhibited.”

But he added, “We are delighted to see the quilt show returning to where it all began.”
