Locals to scoop up fun
Nappanee community column

Local business leaders will be dipping ice cream from behind the soda fountain at Heritage House Senior Living Center in Nappanee each Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. The soda fountain will be open to the public at that time and through Aug. 9 on Thursday evenings.
Local high school students will also be volunteering at the soda shop.
Home And Garden Walk
The Nappanee Home and Garden Club will be having its 8th annual garden walk Saturday. Visitors will begin the walk at the Depot Plaza, South Main Street (one block south of U.S. 6). Ticket sales begin at 8:30 a.m.
The five featured gardens will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The last stop on the walk will be the Olde Buffalo Inn Bed & Breakfast, where refreshments will be provided. Visitors will also be able to browse the old barn for a garden relic. Ticket prices for the garden walk are $5, and all proceeds are used for beautification projects in Nappanee.
Volunteer Training Session
Saturday is the next volunteer training session for the new Nappanee Center. Volunteers will learn how to operate the visitor information kiosk, how to instruct visitors and be given an overview of the brochure racks. Those interested in helping out can still sign up either at the Nappanee Public Library or the Nappanee Center.
Rotary Junior Olympics
The Nappanee Rotary will be hosting its annual Junior Olympics July 4 at 11 a.m. at Stauffer Park.
Boys and girls ages 5 to 12 are invited to participate. Events will include obstacle course, softball toss, 50-yard dash and long jump. Registration will be prior to the event, starting at 10 a.m. Cost to participate is $5 and includes a T-shirt. For more information, contact Don Lehman at 773-2112.
Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast
An early Father’s Day senior pancake breakfast will take place at Heritage House Senior Living Center Friday. Children are asked to invite their grandfathers for this all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast.
Breakfast will be served from 7 to 9 a.m., and the cost is $3 per person. Call for reservations at 773-3592.
Seniors To Visit Farmer’s Market
Elder Haus seniors will be taking a trip to the Farmer’s Market June 20 and will be leaving Elder Haus at 9:30 a.m. Those wishing to attend should call to make reservations at 773-2424.
Each Monday the seniors are invited to take along a sack lunch and spend the day quilting. Pinochle is played at 1 p.m. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, chair exercises will take place at 10 a.m. and euchre at 1 p.m.
