Top 10 Goshen High School students named
THE GOSHEN NEWS
The top 10 seniors at Goshen High School were recognized at an academic honors banquet held recently at Das Dutchman Essenhaus, Middlebury.
The following are the top 10 students of the class of 2008 based on grade-point average in alphabetical order:
• Rose Byler is the daughter of Mark and Anne Meyer Byler. After graduation, she plans on attending Eastern Mennonite University, majoring in social work. Her most influential person was Susan Ellington.
• Nancy Diener is the daughter of Daniel and Christine Diener. After graduation, she plans on attending Indiana Wesleyan University, majoring in accounting and Spanish. Her most influential person was Cynthia Collins.
• Dan Driver is the son of Fred and Joyce Driver. After graduation, he plans on attending Goshen College, majoring in pre-medicine. His most influential person was Jaime Shreiner.
• Kara Federonick is the daughter of John and Rhonda Federonick. After graduation, she plans on attending Purdue University, majoring in animal studies. Her most influential person is Erin Breetzke.
• Krista Kaufman is the daughter of Rod and Jeanine Kaufman. After graduation, she plans on attending Goshen College, majoring in social work/women’s studies. Her most influential person is Marilyn Graber.
• Joel Maust is the son of Brian Maust, Marcia Good and Ingrid Olson. After graduation, he plans on attending Goshen College, majoring in pre-medicine. His most influential person is Brian Maust.
• Michael Murto is the son of Thomas and Lauren Murto. After graduation, he plans on attending Georgetown University, majoring in government. His most influential person is J.D. Russell.
• Kelsey Peters is the daughter of Dave and Nancy Peters. After graduation, she plans on attending the College of Wooster, majoring in biology/chemistry. Her most influential person is Jim Pickard.
• Christopher Simmons is the son of David and Ingrid Simmons. After graduation, he plans on attending Purdue University, majoring in engineering. His most influential person is Rita Lockerbie.
• Xin (Jack) Zheng is the son of Zheng Kui Zheng and Hong Xing Cheng. After graduation, he plans on attending the University of Notre Dame, majoring in finance/engineering. His most influential person is Ken Horst.
Alumni honored
Also honored at the banquet were several distinguished alumni, all physicians, who were inducted into the “Alumni Hall of Fame.” Members inducted include (in alphabetical order):
• Dr. Christina Lynn (Wertz) Haimes is a 1988 graduate. Haimes graduated from Adrian College, majoring in biology and chemistry. Haimes was the pediatric chairwoman at Goshen Hospital from 2002-06 and currently works at Primecare in family practice.
• Dr. Kendra S. Hendon is a 1989 graduate. Hendon graduated from Goshen College, majoring in biology. She is a nephrologist at Nephrology Inc. and a clinical instructor at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
• Dr. Amy L. Moon is a 1990 gradaute. Moon graduated magna cum laude from Indiana University with a degree in biochemistry. She is currently employed at Women’s Health Alliance, Carmel in the Clarian North Medical Center.
• Dr. Jody M. Neer is a 1990 graduate. Neer did his undergraduate work at Indiana University and his postgraduate work at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He currently works at the Fort Wayne Neurological Center.
• Dr. Carla J. Weaver is a 1988 graduate. Weaver graduated cum laude from DePauw University, majoring in biological sciences. Weaver specializes in neonatal care as a pediatrician at St. Vincent Women’s Hospital, Indianapolis. She is currently in charge of the Rapid Response Team for Newborns and does the majority of her clinical work with babies.
• Dr. Delaina E. Wilkin graduated with highest distinction from Indiana University with a degree in biology in 1993. Wilkins is currently working to obtain her Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
Not available were Drs. Denise Murphy and Ervin Slabaugh.
