Experts to give gardening tips at seminar

The Master Gardeners of LaGrange County will have a symposium on “Your Bloomin’ Garden” on Saturday, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The day-long event will take place at the LaGrange County 4-H Fairgrounds.
Six topics will be discussed by area experts. The 45-minute presentations will include Preserving the Bounty, Roses, Bonsai, Bird Habitat, Vermiculture, and Those Busy Bees. For more information or a brochure, call (260) 299-6334.

Hunter’s Safety Class


A Hunter’s Safety Class will be held Saturday and Sunday in the clubhouse at Pine Knob Park in Howe. Anyone born after Dec. 31, 1986 is required to take this class before obtaining a hunting license.
Class times are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The class is free. Participants must take a pencil and a lunch. Registration is required due to space limitations. Call 854-2225 to register. Pine Knob Park is located about three miles east of Howe at 2825 E. Ind. 120.

American Legion


The LaGrange American Legion Post 215 will offer two dinner choices on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Steak dinners are $11 and all-you-can-eat fish dinners are $7. Both include salad and potato bars. Entertainment for the evening will be provided by the Telly Speicher Band. The public is invited. The Legion is located north of LaGrange on Industrial Drive.

Maple Wood


An “Early Bird Tour” is planned for April 5. The Early Bird Tour will hit some of LaGrange County’s birding hotspots during the first phase of migration. The trip will focus on waterfowl since the waters will have recently opened. There should also be some shore birds and waders.
The tour will begin at Maple Wood at 9:30 a.m. Participants should take binoculars, a journal and a bag lunch. Also wear boots that you can get wet.
