Local man electrocuted after crash

PIERCETON, Ind. — A Pierceton man was electrocuted by downed power lines following a crash at 1:24 p.m. Friday in Kosciusko County.
According to Kosciusko County police, the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a personal injury collision on C.R. 575 East near C.R. 100 North east of Warsaw and north of Pierceton Friday afternoon.
Upon arrival at the scene, deputies reportedly found a single vehicle located off of the eastern edge of C.R. 575 East.
Police reported that the driver, Johnathon Patterson, 25, of Pierceton, lost control of his vehicle for an unknown reason near the western edge of the roadway and then overcorrected, sending the vehicle off the eastern edge of the road into the woods.
Once the vehicle left the roadway, it struck a utility pole before striking a tree and coming to rest.
Police indicated Patterson then attempted to get out of his vehicle and was electrocuted by power lines that had been knocked down by the crash.
Patterson was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office from injuries sustained in the incident.
The Kosciusko County FACT Team was assisted at the scene by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Warsaw Police Department, Pierceton Fire Department; Multi-Township Emergency Medical Service, the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office and Kosciusko County REMC.
The crash remains under investigation.
