Finally, a first date after 11 years of marriage

(Continued)

I STARTED WRITING THIS morning excited to tell you, though, that my husband and I, after 11 years married, are planning our first real date. I mean like grown-ups, even — hired a babysitter, having a fancy dinner, all of it.

I was thinking I’d explore the idea of married couples planning regular “date nights.” What do you think? In general, I find it seems like much more fun to date when married. Neither of us has to impress the other, for one, and we both know how the evening will end: A quick good-night kiss in bed over the hulking body of our 2-year-old in an overnight diaper.

Exactly why I said “yes” that day.
